Every month, in no particular order, this page will highlight one of the many artists who has contributed to the production and success of House of Chai productions. I’d love to include a page of links to all of the artists I admire, or even to just the ones I know and respect. But if I did, it would require a webpage that would scroll as much as the Torah!

House of Chai - Featured artist of the month
March 2008 - David Coffman

Dog screen left, David Coffman right.

If asked what I like best about David Coffman, my answer would be “my arms”! I can’t decide if the “C” in “Coffman” stands for cool, confident, or courageous, but whatever it stands for I know that if I had to buy him a wallet, it’d be the one Samuel L. Jackson put into the garbage bag at the end of Pulp Fiction.

I met David when I started teaching at SJSU and he’s been one hell of a guy to get to know! He’s the whole package; nice personality, great sense of humor, and good looks. David’s worked on a number of projects with me including Fumi, Neighborhood Roots, and he’s the guy driving the tractor in Cole Needs Women. He's also solely responsible for the concepts “Used Car Promotion” and “Bulimic Piñata” in Stoopid Movie!!! in case any activist groups want to contact him.

This gargantuan from Gilroy went on to graduate from college to be one of the first animators hired by Hallmark Cards, where he is still working; basking in the humidity of the summer and shivering in the wind chill of the winter. In addition to all of the work he does for Hallmark, it's a pleasure to see all of the new images and ideas he’s constantly creating!

Dave is a multi faceted, ambitious artist, with a passion for life and a gullet full of gusto. He’s a great team mate to have on a project, faithful compadre to his many friends, and as I’ve imagined many times, I’m assuming an extraordinary lover between the sheets.

It’s for these reasons the House of Chai extends its Bulimic Piñata high in honor of David Coffman! Please check out more of his artwork on The Coffman Blog and find out a little more behind the man himself on myspace.com

Thanks David!
